Step by Step

Renovation projects vary tremendously. The outline below reflects the typical process for kitchen and bathroom renovations:

PRE-CONSTRUCTION PLANNING
Sign contract
Create drawings
Get engineering and plans as needed
Assist client with selection process
Create a thorough job schedule
Apply for permits
Schedule pre-construction meeting with the client

PROTECTION AND DEMOLITION
Protect all living areas
Protect any exterior areas
Determine all electrical and plumbing connections that are active in the work area and turn off
Protect path to debris removal container
Remove all fixtures and other material associated with demo
Saw-cut floor to allow for the relocation of power/plumbing, if applicable

ROUGH-IN ALL TRADES
Frame all new areas
Walkthrough with the client, designer, and electrician to determine locations for all fixtures, switches, and outlets
Get framing inspection
Rough-in electrical and plumbing
Have plumbers re-rough-in as necessary
Get electrical and plumbing rough-in inspections
Install new A/C and exhaust vents as necessary
Get HVAC inspection
Spray foam insulation around any electrical outlets
Get insulation inspection

INSTALLATION OF FINISHES
Hang drywall and Durock as necessary
Finish and texture drywall, if desired
Hang doors, trim, base, crown, etc. as applicable
Prime and apply one coat of paint to all walls
Install room flooring
Grout and seal all tile
Install cabinets
Install countertops and sinks
Install toilet and tub
Apply final coat of paint to all surfaces
Get final electrical and plumbing inspections
Complete walk-through and create the punch list
Professionally clean entire affected area
